Each year at Racheal Farms we grow in size as well as depth. Let me explain. In the first few years, we started to build our foundation herd; these were the girls who would become the base of our breeding program. During these years we also learned how to care for, train and enjoy our alpacas. We grew from our original four females to our current 10 girls and 5 boys, each one unique and genetically advanced.
Our strategy was simple; buy the best quality alpacas we could purchase and build from there. That is exactly what we did. Though, I was constantly fighting with myself over choosing color rather than genetics, heredity always won out. I love the black and dark rose grays. I am so excited when we breed for quality and get a true black beauty from an exceptional genetic line.
As the herd grew, we were faced with a decision. How do you locate the best sires that match the quality of your females? What about color? We had successfully grown the dark herd but we needed some fawn and white. Do we search out strong herd sires or do we purchase our own? This was a really scary thought but it was truly the next step for our growth.
This year, we welcomed MFI Firenzi and Accoyo September to the farm. They are beautiful, handsome males with unbelievable genetics. Last year we also welcomed a handsome silver grey cria out of Peruvian 5 Dona Flavia and Magical Farms Sky King. RFI Sky Ranger is cute, soft and a classic grey male. We now can service our brown, black and gray foundation herd with black, white or silver grey. We can add color, density, brightness and softness where needed and watch for exciting results in the spring of 2012. We can also offer stud service to our sister alpaca farms to help sustain and improve our industry fleece production.

Miss Vicky is a beautiful true black girl with soft handle and thick dense fleece. Her sire is Magical Farms-My Obsydian. Her dam is an award winning bay black daughter of the famed Dakotia line. This beautiful fawn girl carries her sires color, gorgeous head and dense crimp while she inherited her dams grace and confirmation. MFI Jericho has claimed his place as a great sire and Zabrina is proof. Her dam, Zathura is a tall graceful girl who has given us four award winning offspring. This little girl is one to watch.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Snowmass auction in Phoenix. It was an awesome experience and I had three days to talk about alpacas with farm owners from places like Wisconsin, Idaho, Michigan and Australia.
